The Marydel Volunteer Fire Company conducted a controlled burn early Sunday morning April 27, 2014 at the old U.L.Harmans site. The building that was burned was the second firehouse to the Marydel Volunteer Fire Company. That building served us until around 1958 when we moved to our present location. The new owners had offered the building to the Fire Company, but it was cost prohibitive to move the building. Assistant Chief Grygo set up coordination with DNRec and the building owner. Assistant Chief Grygo invited our mutual aide companies, Hartly Fire Company, and the Goldsboro (Caroline County, Md.), and the Magnolia Fire Company for tanker 55. Captain Madden ran the training exercise utilizing crews to protect the exposures. After the building was burnt, crews checked for hotspots and tuned over to the owners.
