Electrical Malfuction Causes Blackout At Station 56 - Marydel Vol. Fire Company
Sunday, July 15, 2012

On the night on July 15, 2012 MVFC lost power to the station around 2145 hrs. As members checked the station, they noticed the fire alarm panel was activated and smelled something burning in the generator room. 56-18 (Barr) contacted 56-15 (B Madden) to respond to the station. Upon arrival 56-15 requested the apparatus to be removed from the station. 56-18 then contacted Kent Center to alert the station for a manpower assist. At 2204 the station was alerted for manpower. 56-15 then contacted Kriss contracting who immediately responded to the station. Delmarva Power was also contacted. An electrician from Kriss Contracting and the representative from Delmarva Power determined it was a malfunction in the transfer switch outside the building. Power was cut to the building for the evening and the station was on backup power. The MVFC would like to extend special thanks to Kriss contracting for the efforts they put forth in providing electric to the station in a timely matter. Also the MVFC would like to thank ILC of Frederica for providing the station our transfer box, with doing so they had to put there project on hold. Thanks to all the members who provided manpower while dealing with the power outageat the station.
