Assist station 700 with an appliance fire - 14400 Irwin Chapel Road, Goldsboro

Sunday March 07,2010 was a busy day for the Marydel Fire Co., Kent Center alerted the Marydel Fire Co. at 16:50 hours, to assist station 51 with a structure fire at 3051 Arthursville Road. Units were cancelled prior to arrival. At 19:47 hours Caroline alerted station 700, 300, 400, 56, and 600 for an appliance fire @ 14400 Irwin Chapel Road box area 7-2, Goldsboro, MD..Upon responding units were advised call was being upgraded to a working alarm with multiple subjects trapped inside with people attempting to jump outside of the windows from the second story. Engine 56-1 went responding with a crew of 8 with officer 56-16 (Simonsen), Rescue 56 with a crew of 5, officer 56-23 (Olechney), Tanker 56 with a crew of 2, officer 56-15 (Madden), engine 56-2 with a crew of 3, with officer 56-25 (Collins), engine 56-4 with a crew of 3, officer Chief Emeritus Lane. Engine 703 with officer 7-17 arrived to a 2 story wood framed s.f.d. , 50 percent involved, and established Irwin's Chapel Command. There was heavy fire throughout the structure which quickley spread to a detached garage that had been converted to living quarters. Caroline County PM 17 arrived at the same time as engine 703, and found an unconscious female lying in the driveway suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. All occupants were found to be evacuated from the structure prior to fd arrival. The unconscious female was transported to Bayview burn ctr. in Baltimore MD. via MSP trooper 4, 2 additional patients were transported by ground to KGH in Dover. Marydel's crew's assisted with extinguishment by pulling a 2-1/2 inch blitz line off of engine 603 and attacking the garage fire. after extinguishment all crews assisted in mop up and overhaul. Engine 1 was assigned to set up on Wothers road to fill tankers, till command requested engine 1 to shut down operations and head back to the scene so foam could be used on the structure. Marydel units operated on scene for approximately 5 hours. A special thanks to Fire in the Hole Photography and Bruce Secrist for the photos.
